The Garo-Deflagration exhibition hosted at the Espace Arlaud in Lausanne from January the 27th to March the 26th, drew a record number of visitors. During 8 weeks, the exhibition events, either public or private, were attended by an audience of over 2,700 people. A great success even for cultural mediation that, thanks to a substantial effort provided by the organizers and the artist himself, has enabled the development of a quality offer for schools and the general public. 30 guided tours were conducted through the exhibition, for more than 600 participants -26 school classes, from primary and secondary schools, gymnasiums and universities.
Tenté par la démesure, l’artiste met sa faconde au service de sa peinture, lui qui prise le format monumental, «idéal par rapport à la thématique», et publie un livre conséquent sur son projet, aux éditions Till Schaap, avec des textes de Michel Thévoz, Nicole Kunz, Thierry Basset, Paulo David, notamment. Lui qui n’hésite pas à voyager et voyager encore dans les régions concernées, et à y prélever des terres et des roches qui lui serviront de pigments, et donneront, par exemple, ce «bleu d’Orient» presque lumineux, et ces ocres et ces bruns, ces noirs de bitume. Lui qui travaille à même le sol, à l’aide de truelles et de tamis, ainsi que le révèle la reconstitution d’une partie de son atelier.

The Beijing International Art Biennale is praised as the biggest art biennale with its exhibits mainly consisting of paintings and sculptures and, this year, it proposes a reflection around the theme of “Silk Road and World’s Civilizations”. Bernard Garo is the unique Swiss artist invited and he will present his canvas entitled Mystère d’un huis clos oriental. This invitation represents a great honor and acknowledgement for the artist, whose art work questions our identity, our view of the environment and our openness to other cultures.
